"Uncle Sams Devil Island"

Alcatraz...
The most famous prison in our country, the topic of many a movie, and supposedly inescapable. The prison is located in the San Fransisco Bay, approximately 1.5 miles from the shore of San Fransisco. This fact alone is scary to think about.
  • Reason 1 for inescapability: One would have to swim close to the same distance as in an Ironman Triathlon to reach shore.
Furthermore, this prison was megalith, and when i say megalith, i mean MEGALITH. The island was used as a military base for over 50 years, and thus was fortified as such. For example, think about trying to escape from Guantanamo Bay Prison in Cuba (impossible by the way), it would be similar trying to break out of Alcatraz.
  • Reason 2 for Inescapability: Military fortifications made it incredibly difficult to get off the island without being impaired in someway.

So, i guess it seems like the government was right in assuming that this place was sealed tight. But hey, the Mythbusters said it was possible, so who knows?
